ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Like many people I have an uneven relationship with technology. I completely rely on it to create my Photoshop-based art, of course, and as a commercial photographer in San Francisco during the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, I did more than my share of computer and computer related product shots, helping to put my kids through college. Some of those product shots also helped to create this image. However, outside of my work I find the way that computers and the internet has changed the world and way we all live to be concerning, to say the least. Sometimes those changes feel like an alien invasion has occurred; but one where we’re both the invaders and the invaded. It’s a done deal, though, for better or worse. The apparatus has landed. Limited edition of 30 - signed and numbered on the print below the image and on an enclosed Certificate of Authenticity. Printed on Canson Platine Fibre Rag, an archival fine art paper. Image printed area: 11.5 X 15.33 inches. Total print size including white borders: 13 x 19 inches. It will be shipped rolled, securely inside a shipping tube.

After a decades-long career as a commercial photographer I’ve turned my hand to producing more personal imagery. In my work I strive to evoke emotional and psychological truths by creating enigmatic, dream-like scenes steeped in symbolism. They depict impossibilities, paradoxes, and incongruities, but all rendered with precise, seamless realism. I’m inspired by the Surrealists, as well as by Renaissance art. Ideas for my images are sparked in a number of different ways, and each evolves as I weave them together from the raw materials of my photos and my imagination. Experimenting with different combinations of image elements until they take on a life of their own, I then begin the exacting detail work of making the impossible seem believable Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, I have lived for many years with my beautiful and inspiring wife on a steep hill in San Francisco, near our children and grandchildren.
