About The Artwork

Taken in Autumn 2019 over Teal Lagoon in the Everlasting Swamp the photo was captured within 48 hours of being inundated by river water in an attempt to improve the health of the lagoon which had dried and scalded. The complex soil chemistry results in very acidic conditions which had turned the water gin clear. The rich colours of the iron stained surface are brought out just like adding varnish to raw wood. Timber fence posts can be seen crossing the lagoon. This limited edition of 5 prints was first exhibited in the Lone Goat Gallery Byron Bay in August 2019 this being the last of the edition. The artwork is framed with a beech frame behind acrylic. The print is of Giclee quality on Moab fine art paper which is a 300gsm natural rag 100% cotton paper of archival quality.

I'm an artist with a background in environmental science and passion for rivers, wetlands, fish and fish habitat. There's a bit of an art Vs science battle for relevance inside myself that I'm diffusing by communicating the science thought the arts. For me it's a natural fit although the end result usually involves a lot a verbal expression to effectively draw the linkages that seem so clear inside my head. While my paintings and other artwork have been well received it's my photography that has attracted the most engaging support from the wider community. I've enjoyed the thrill of exhibiting my work and am also grateful for the recognition I've received at a national level as a three times finalist in the Australian Photography Awards. I keep the camera of my drone pointing directly down as I search for lines, textures and colours that I find interesting. I mostly photograph the wetlands and estuaries of the NSW north coast.
