About The Artwork
Artist, performer, filmmaker, Natasha Maidoff is currently generating “Live Cinema!”-- a matrix to create work that incorporates physical theater layered with digital media using projection and performance. In her “Live Cinema!” series -- a group of visual essays that unfold in triptych -- Maidoff takes on the characters of a sleepwalker, a cowgirl and a motherboard as a means to discuss themes of feminine strength and domestic power. In her video installation, Live Cinema! The Cowgirl, landscapes and Super-8 footage of Maidoff's childhood is projected onto a live performance on a horse, shot in Topanga, CA. A narrative unfolds, revealing a story of how a horse “saved her life” and learning to ride allowed her to overcome the trauma of her father’s disappearance.
