Welcome and allow me to present myself. My real name is Martha Di Giovanni but my friends calls me DOC. I was born on September 22, 1955 in the East Harlem section of New York City, New York and have been drawing since I learned to use a crayon. By the age of five, I was attending a community program in East Harlem where my first art teacher, Mr. Joseph, taught me how to draw in charcoal, oils and pastels. I had my first exhibition by the age of ten.
Since I was a little girl I have been a fascinated with comic books and cartoons. My heroes were Captain America, Flash, Hanna- Barbera and Disney animations. It was my dream to be able to create my own images and characters. I strive in trying to perfect my style and was always willing to take a challenge.
Now that I have the freedom to work on my art, my dream is to create art with the computer instead of the traditional way of painting. It is my biggest challenge to see what I can create through a machine but I do sketch my art first. My goal is to create the most colorful and realistic art with my imagination and the technology of computers.
I attended the high school of Art and Design in New York and at the age of 15, moved to South America and continued my education at the University of Fine Arts in Rosario Argentina where I studied llustration and cartooning as well as taking private lessons from different artists.
I studied visual communication at Katherine Gibbs for two years and discovered my love of the digital arts. I still do some pen and ink but it is very difficult for me to get away from the PC.
