At 59, JP Florencio (a.k.a Cio) embarks on art as a self-taught painter, driven by a visceral need to translate human tensions. His work is deeply rooted in a profound reflection on the meaning of existence, influenced by the existential philosophies of Spinoza, Pessoa, Cioran, Camus, and Schopenhauer.
More than just a visual language, his paintings are the result of raw emotion that imposes itself upon him and guides his hand. While some feel emotions in front of a painting, for Cio, it is the emotion that gives birth to the canvas.
Through tormented figures and geometric compositions, he sheds light on the inner struggle of man against the absurd, doubt, and the human condition.
