Filip Desmet

I was born 1958 in the small Flemish city of Izegem, Belgium. I paint pictures of nature, special rose images and portraits. My starting points in painting are my deep interest in nature and my consciousness of the living dynamism of the painterly means like colour and light. Roses, imaginary landscapes and trees became important motives in my work. Sometimes polyptiches of these motifs, combined with monochromes, get the images on a more universal level. A certain openness gives the spectator opportunities for own experience and interpretation. During the last years portrait painting also became more important.

I got an art education in the late seventies at Luca school of arts, Ghent, Belgium. I worked as an art teacher afterwards (Antwerp, Ghent ...) but always tried to get enough time for my own painting and other artwork. In the eighties I was also educated to be an art therapist at "De Wervel", Driebergen, Holland. I never really worked as a therapist but this education influenced certainly the depth of my painting and also the creation of art programs as a teacher.
