Jeannette Amsterdam (1980) shows real -Amsterdam- street art to her audience. Her works are hung all around the world, from Amsterdam to Barcelona to Hong kong and Quebec.
She ripped her canvas literally off the streets of Amsterdam: thick layers of up to 30 (!!) posters pasted on top of each other outside the streets for years, with dirt and all.
Raw and colorful, never really straight or clean. Often the details of the poster still are visible , you can see true the painting and discover parts of texts underneath that say; “Amsterdam”. The work has undergone an epoxy resin finish. This makes the work catch light differently and makes the layers posters sturdy and indestructible.
She wants us to describe her style best as GRAFFITY-POP. Her works are always colorful and striking. The works are a mix of techniques.
The work - an eclectic mix- has always a (hidden) message to the viewer.
Jeannette finds her inspiration and styles in modern and classic design, fashion, trends on social media and advertisement we see all around us, she’s inspired by the works and lives of iconic masters like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein , Mucha, Frida Kahlo and Gustav Klimt.
