Shankar’s paintings are a visual record of the direct and invisible communion people have
with their love for music and nature. Inspiration to him comes from everything he sees, feels
and experiences. His work is a reflection of his thoughts and nostalgic memories on
canvas. His paintings depict a constant state of renewal and experimentation, and his
intuitive trust in this process brings out unforeseen results. The depiction of village life is
essentially a rendition of beatific instances from his childhood days. Often, these instances
are combined with human figures bearing seraphic smiles demonstrating their heartfelt
association with animals or music. The play of colors in his artwork and the artist’s effort to
express meaning and spiritualism, rather than physical reality, brings an unfeigned delight
to viewers. His works also tend to focus on mythology and the evolution of man and his
material wealth.
