The expressive, semi-abstract paintings by Brenda Myrick are influenced by botanicals, mood, and the ever-changing near-by landscape. Myrick draws directly from the four seasons of Vermont, absorbing, recording, interpreting, and responding to it within her paintings. First-hand information of her environment, including immediate studies and impressions inform her work back in her studio in Bristol, Vermont. The artist finds that nature is continually calling her name, inspiring her artistic voice and next moves with it's changes and moods. Myrick finds that pushing her visual language, and also herself into unknown territory, be it a new choice of mediums, color, or ideas, holds an important key to her continual desire to produce new work. Gesture and the underlying energy of joy are important parts of her approach: the artist begins with an underpainting reflecting the colors of the season and also her muse, and then builds up form and layers. She then works intuitively at this point using more color, mark making, and adding and subtracting until the work feels complete.
