Growing up in Nigeria, a country where women face numerous challenges in joggling family upkeep with the society’s demand as a woman, I developed an interest in projecting my observations through my works. Using a range of various media, my works convey the expressions of strength, love, perseverance, and sometimes, depression, uncertainty, and the likes that women go through on a daily basis.
Working mostly in oil on canvas, I use the rich tones that oil provides to give my paintings a strong physical presence. This presence is enhanced by the rendition of my works in impasto. They are usually in abstract, stylized, or naturalistic forms which exaggerate the subject of the pieces for the audience’s perusal. I also work with other media such as charcoal and acrylic. I live and work in Vancouver, Canada.
I graduated from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, where I taught art. I obtained my Master of Arts in Art History (2017), and my Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts - Painting (2014), from the same university. I am a PhD student at the University of British Columbia, Canada.
I have participated in two group exhibitions:
'Diversiform' in 2018 and 'Jubilation' in 2014.
