About The Artwork

"Running Pattern - Studs vs. Stripes" 92 w x 44 h x 1.5 inches Acrylic on canvas. The artwork ships in a sturdy roll, fully insured by Saatchi Gallery. It is with great joy that we received news that the Ootacamund Authorities decided to ban the re-sale of retired race horses in the Nilgiris for tourist rides and these stray horses are now being rounded up and impounded. [ https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/former-race-horses-abandoned-on-streets-impounded/article32379231.ece ] [ https://theworldnews.net/in-news/former-race-horses-abandoned-on-streets-impounded ] The artist's commission for this work will still be donated to Worldwide Veterinary Service India in support of the rehabilitation and care of retired race horses and ponies in their care, in the Nilgiris, South India. Racehorses that are too 'old' to participate in racing were sold locally and used to cart tourists around the lake area during the two-month tourist season. In off-season times these racehorses were left to fend for themselves and scavenge for food around the grassy hills. This grass diet alone is not sufficient feed for these athletic horses where a diet of five different grains needs to be given regularly to maintain their health. WVS provides supplemental feeding to these horses along with much needed medical care. Apart from this WVS is also communicating with local authorities regarding solutions to sustainable long-term care for these horses post retirement. For more information on how these proceeds will benefit WVS India feel free to contact them at fundraising@wvs.org.uk Read more about the work of WVS by following this link https://wvs.org.uk/ *WVS India is part of the action team focused on finding a sustainable solution for the retired racehorse dilemma in the Nilgiris.
