Art for me, began with sculpting. I created and sold a line of Christmas figurines but never found the escape I now have with painting. Though I have no formal training, my painting is evolving as I learn and master new techniques utilizing palette knives. My current preferred painting surface is birch-faced, 1.5” deep, New Zealand pine sided canvases. These 6” x 8” wooden canvases limit my creative space, making me focus on the color choices to convey the feeling intended by each painting. I love music, and am often trying to convert the visual image each song gives me, in my mind’s eye, to the canvas. The process starts with my color choices and a general idea of the layout. From there, I paint while listening to the song that is the inspiration for the painting. Based on the drying times, and the thickness of paint I tend to apply, the small canvases work well for the paint blending techniques I utilize.
