Art Description

Painting: Oil, Paint on Wood.

My paintings explore the longing we have for the things we cannot easily explain. I think a lot about the science of time and space and our physical and emotional experience of it as an entity of nature.

I paint in oils - mostly on stretched linen or thin timber panels. This painting, 'Ya'aburne' is painted on a timber panel.

English is my only language but for my titles I have chosen words that are not easily translated into English. I have done this because often this highlights feelings that we have within our culture that we can only explain through art.

'Ya'aburnee is an Arabic word. Both sad and beautiful at once (as things often are), this incantatory word means “You bury me”. It is a wish to die before your loved one so you do not ever have to live live without them.
