In this piece I commented on the established cartographic and cultural conventions in the most obvious way: I used a cylinder Gall-Peters projection, which differs from the ubiquitous Mercator projection in that it gives a more-or-less accurate (though some distortion nevertheless remains) representation of the size of the continents. The widely used Mercator Map unjustly enlarges the Northern Hemisphere at the expense of teh Southern, which makes the main continents of the Western Civilization – Europe and North America – appear larger with respect to, for example, Africa or South America. In order to further stress my point, I turned the map upside down so as to remove another convention, which is placing North atop. Another thing…
