Roma Finlinson’s paintings are visceral fields of transformation, where the ecological memory of the Caribbean collides with the structured pulse of urban London. Her process is one of alchemical experimentation, treating the canvas as a reactive laboratory. By harnessing the unpredictable behaviors of mixed media, acrylics, resins, and pigments, she creates textured, multi-layered abstractions that pulse with both chaotic energy and profound serenity.
Born in Trinidad and now based in London, Finlinson’s work is fundamentally shaped by this duality. The lush, tangled rhythms of tropical nature and the sharp geometry of the metropolis merge in her practice, resulting in dynamic compositions that explore themes of mental landscape, cultural identity, and ecological resonance. Each painting is not merely made, but grown—a recorded reaction where control surrenders to the material’s own will, mirroring the complexities of emotional and environmental change.
She maintains a studio in London that operates as a dedicated site where the boundaries between art and science, intuition and analysis, are continuously dissolved.

Her journey to a full-time practice was a pivotal personal evolution, crystallized in a breakthrough piece titled Self Possessed. This work marked the moment her technical experimentation coalesced into a distinct and confident artistic voice. Influenced by the emotional rawness of Frida Kahlo and the painterly control of artists like Nancy Wood, Finlinson’s work embraces vulnerability as a catalyst for innovation.
Finlinson’s paintings are held in private collections internationally and have been featured in select exhibitions. She lives and works in London, where she continuously forges new visual syntax from the friction between natural forces and constructed realities.
