Ruth Mccrary

I have a lifelong fascination with fluidity and "mindspaces". Water is a symbol of openness as well as a way to cleanse and reform space. Its motion and water itself are central aspects of my paintings and their process. My recent work begins with pouring acrylic paint and ink on loose satin fabric. The completed piece is folded, sculpted and photographed. The movement of this imagery is then enhanced digitally with liquid texture brushes. The transition from a painting that physically exists to another that only exists digitally is also emblematic of my desire to shift away from dependence on the physical.
