Elin Painting

I am an abstract painter, living and working in West Wales. I have loved painting and craft since I was young – always enjoying creating colourful work and being messy! I have continued painting into my adulthood and developed different techniques and styles. My current artwork is based on reflections in water. I began painting scenes that I found powerful and beautiful from the natural world. I found that reflections in water, of rainbows, landscapes, sunsets and skies provided aesthetically pleasing, interesting and slightly distorted images of the world. I have since delved into using different colour schemes, creating bright, eye-catching pieces. When painting I tend to stand above a canvas and move around it, I find this more conducive to “unexpected developments”, and encourages a painting to take on its own life. I also like to allow gravity to play its part – holding paintings at different angles and manoeuvring them from time to time. I find that this creates the distorted/reflective result I aim for. Once I have created the effect I am happy with, the paint evens out and creates a smooth uniform finish. I like working with both fluid, smooth paint and more heavy bodied, textured paint. The end result being very different depending on the type of paint I choose to use. I have also recently begun creating more textured pieces, using a variety of ‘tools’ to manipulate the paint until I have reached my desired result. Rwyf wedi parhau paentio i mewn i fy oedolaeth ac wedi datblygu gwahanol dechnegau ac arddulliau. Mae fy ngwaith celf bresennol yn seiliedig ar adlewyrchiadau mewn dŵr. Dechreuais beintio golygfeydd o’r byd naturiol sy’n pwerus a hardd. Darganfodais fod adlewyrchiadau mewn dŵr, enfysoedd, tirweddau, machlud-haul ac awyr yn ddarparu delweddau ddeniadol, yn ddiddorol ac yn ystymiedig. Ers hyn rwyf wedi pori mewn defnyddio cynlluniau lliw gwahanol, gan greu, darnau trawiadol llachar. Wrth beintio Dwi’n tueddu i sefyll uwchben canfas a symud o’i gwmpas, yr wyf yn ffindio fod hyn yn fwy ffafriol i ‘ddatblygiadau annisgwyl’, ac yn annog llun i cymryd ymlaen ei fywyd ei hun. Rwyf hefyd yn hoffi i ganiatáu disgyrchiant i chwarae ei ran – yn dal lluniau ar wahanol onglau ac yn eu symud o amser I amser.
