Carol McDermott is a contemporary British painter based in the North Pennines, where the surrounding landscapes and changing skies strongly influence her work. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Carol has spent more than 30 years developing an intuitive painting practice that blends abstraction with elements of representation. Her work is driven by emotion, colour and movement, often reflecting a sense of connection between nature, memory and the unseen energies of the world around us. Working in acrylic, oil and mixed media, she builds layered surfaces that evolve through experimentation and instinct. Many of her paintings begin without a fixed outcome, allowing the image to develop naturally as the work progresses. Her aim is to create paintings that feel alive, joyful and soulful — pieces that bring colour, curiosity and positive energy into the spaces they inhabit. Carol’s work is collected internationally and held in private collections in the UK, USA, Australia, France, Italy, Dubai and Israel.
