James Rooney is a graphic designer, illustrator & artist based in Dublin. Self taught, James has been painting since 2000, working mostly with oils, acrylics and mixed media. “Being self taught results in a lot of experimentation with materials and surfaces which can be a hugely exciting process. Most pieces start off with a definite plan in mind, but tend to take off in an entirely different direction, which I am compelled to go with. If it doesn’t end up as something I’m pleased with, I’m quite happy to paint over the entire piece, leaving slight suggestions of the original peeping through. My inspiration is drawn mostly from nature and the ever changing moods of the Irish landscape. Sometimes bright and beautiful, sometimes dark and oppressive. I strive to convey mood and atmosphere with texture and depth playing an important role”.
