Jean Cherouny

Jean Cherouny's "physicality" with paint grew out of her competitive skiing and mountain biking careers. She sees painting as a way of believing. As an abstract artist, Jean believes in the body's ability to paint as a way of reflecting the techniques and extremes of her time.

"I am in a wild game of emotion and energy that finds its paths and forms under my feet. The body reflects my greatest knowledge and spirit. It's the one thing I trust most to get me to where I am going, well, maybe that and wheels." Jean speaks.

Moving and making have interested Jean Cherouny for a lifetime. Jean is an Active Expressionist Painter. Trained at the University of Vermont where she ski raced competitively, earning a BS in Art Education in 1991, Cherouny has shown her work in juried and commercial shows in America and Europe. She went beyond the brush with her rollerblade paintings literally skating the paint onto the canvas with her wheels in 2008. She earned her MFA from Northern Vermont University in 2010. Connection to her body, using a single handmade wheel tool in addition to skate painting, guides her to create playfully, candy colored field paintings showing evidence of the wheel's time on the canvas. Jean continues her powerful tributes to color and life energy creating large body scaled, colorful, expressionist paintings on her studio’s floor. Most recently she has been featured in “All She Makes” a curated art & culture magazine highlighting women artists worldwide.

Recently Jean attended and sold prints at the Art Expo NYC with Perseus Gallery NYC. She was a big success at The Other Art Fair in Dallas, Texas in May, 2025 representing Aruba where she is currently based. Jean was a featured artist with Contemporary Art Curator Magazine for Visionary Artists Shaping the Future in 2025. It is available on Amazon.
