Ryu HoiMin(류회민) -
Although the world is filled with dazzling colors, the allure of black and white remains timeless. With just two tones—black and white—ink wash painting (Sumukhwa) can express every landscape in the world and convey profound philosophy within.
While many artists practice ink painting, Ryu HoiMin employs a distinctive method. He grinds ink on a traditional inkstone and uses its pure, concentrated form without dilution. By layering ink multiple times, he controls the depth and density of the color. Unlike typical ink wash painting that adjusts tone with water, Ryu’s approach creates a much more striking intensity.
