Gabriele Gervickaite

I'm interdisciplinary artist.
In my artistic practice, I've worked extensively with the image we have about disabilities. My goal is to question the various taboos of disability created through politics, media and the beauty industry. Currently I'm interested in themes of love, sex and disability – it seems that when disability is visible, sex rarely exists.
My studio is a surgery room - a place where I re-organize body parts and bones. By exploring the body as a medium, the surgical process as a performance and the relationship between the two, I construct a cyborg organism. I design life-sustaining systems for this hybrid.
