ABOUT

Walter Scott is the theorist of "Defiguration Libre". At the crossroads of the surrealism of Joan Miró and the free figuration of Robert Combas, this movement delivers hypnotic works. They are worked like pareidolia on flat areas of color with random shapes. Just accumulated topics to which each viewer will give their own meaning. Dragons for some, phallic for others, it is the psyche of the analysand which determines his vision. The artist's words give us the keys to his work "my paintings are like my life, they have no meaning". The technique is intuitive and close to the state of hypnosis. The result is a painting of the soul that can be read with the eyes and understood with the heart. Like dream catchers, Walter Scott's paintings capture nightmares. A materialization of the myth of Dorian Gray with garish colors and accusatory looks. Unlike works with decorative roles, those of Walter Scott disturb, question, worry or displease. This is the artist's goal, to move away from painting for tourists. He makes these paintings for crazy people who want to buy them. His thoughts are equivocal about his buyers: “I don’t care about art. People need to dream and I need money. It’s just a transfer of skills.”
