Julia Stockwell-Hamid

Fine artist and silversmith

Born in the UK but inspired by her experience of life in Africa, Julia’s colour-rich, textured oil paintings relate to a Sudanese custom of welcoming strangers - large vessels that are used in food storage and preparation are also left with water for passing strangers. Julia hopes that others will be inspired by the warm humanity of her African friendships: ‘It’s wonderful to be able to offer comfort to others and to experience the kindness of people in a place where you are just a visitor.’

In her work as a silversmith Julia uses traditional techniques and innovative original designs to create unique pieces of jewellery using only the finest materials. ‘I am passionate about the work I do, I constantly push the parameters of my designs, striving to produce mini pieces of 'art' to be treasured and passed on from one generation to the next.’ 


More recently Julia has started to incorporate real silver into her fine-art work weaving into the canvases, adding fine silver leaf and using her hallmark as a signature on those paintings that contain silver.
