  29. Chris Waddington Although certain of Rothkos large colour field abstracts have a certain luminous transcendent ( a word the art world struggles with) quality they are certainly no match for any Turner, the British artist and first of the moderns on whom Rothkos whole career is precariously based.Indeed it is one of the great falsehoods of art history and one certain trendy art critics swallow whole, that late Turner was moving into total abstraction,(lest we forget 'Departure of the Fleet' 1850).

  30. Chris Waddington 2.Rothko and other modernists, lacking the continuity and depth of Turner, misguidedly took unfinished watercolour prototypes of Turners and headed down blind alleys of nebulous abstraction.Beautiful in a stripped down way some those Rothkos and Frankenthaler's maybe, but great painting? i doubt it.

  31. Candice Jamieson I love Rothko's later paintings. So emotional and thought provoking but I actually prefer his 'Subway Series' so sad that he abandoned this style. Some great use of colour here.

  33. Margaret Reardon These all seem to me childish reactions to Rothko. Shame.
