Agnieszka Figurska

A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Currently she does easel painting, design work and illustration work. A source of inspiration for her is the city with its light, rhythm and people.

Agnieszka about her work:

“I notice a piece of a vibrant city that surrounds me. The verticals and horizontals of buildings, lines, colours, directions, moving vehicles and people. The effect of this sudden and momentary observation are my impressions and feelings. These reflections build ‘space’ within me which comprises equivalents of specific characteristics of the observation. Just as the piece of the ‘living’ city arranged space by its own means, so the impression from the observation of the moment builds an inner space of my Metropolis. I paint light, space and movement. I want my paintings to evocatively portray these basic elements of the inner world and at the same time the world that I see. I try to bring the light out with pigment, to get space out of the two-dimensional surface of the painting and movement out of static stains. I desire to transform this dead painting matter into an equivalent of a ‘living city’.
