Mark Bava

Mark Bava captures human characteristics and social behavior through his abstract figurative sculpture. He is noted for his wry subject matter with expressive surface textures complete with chips, hacks, tool marks and casting flaws.

Since childhood, under the influence of his mother who was an Impressionistic painter, Bava took an interest in art, producing drawings and paintings at a very early age. He later attended art school at CSU Stanislaus in the mid-seventies. Known for it's art department that boasted a contemporary curriculum, many of the instructors were from New York and through the school's art and theatre program, winter semesters were spent in New York under sculptor Ralf Parton. Bava sites that studying in New York during that period of Abstract Expressionism had a major impact on his work today.

Mr. Bava also has considerable foundry and mold making experience. As a few examples of his influences he sites Giacometti, Lynn Chadwick, Manuel Neri and Kenneth Armitage. His work is sold in galleries in San Francisco, Carmel, Chicago, Atlanta and Washington DC.
