Charlene King

I was born in 1986 in Reading, England. In 2008, i emigrated to Melbourne, Australia where i am completing my MFA. My interests aside from art are collecting books and cooking. I currently live in Docklands with my fiance who is a photographer himself.

In my artwork I am interested in creating a visual language that investigates the experience of place. I work primarily in painting, printmaking and some textiles. My inspirations are British artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, especially Barbara Hepworth, Whistler Alfred Wallis and Paul Nash. I also have an interest in the artist's colony at St. Ives and the artists who worked there. It is my belief that homogenity in experience and place was achieved best by the artists of this period and within the sphere of influence of the St Ives artists' colony and I am working on ways I can think about how they achieved this in my own practice.

I studied a BA(Hons) in History of Art and the University of Reading. I am currently completing my MFA at RMIT.,
