Gitte Winthers paintings are inspired by concepts drawn from Colourfield Painting and Pop Art, yet the
perspective is more formalistic. It´s process oriented and each step in the construction of the painting is a part of a whole, a piece in assembling a puzzle which in itself is a utopia. The shapes and colours within the field suggest both physical presence and concept. The painting does not end at the edge of the canvas, but flows over and develops into the next canvas.
Her approach to the painting is at the same time poetical and sober. Gitte Winther tugs at stillness. Within the encounter between the transparent streaks and the saturated coulour field, new avenues and constellations emerge.
