Ilich Castillo (b.1978) is a video artist working in Guayaquil and lecturer at ITAE (Ecuador), where he previously completed the Visual Arts BFA program. He is a former member of the artist collective "La Limpia" (2001-2006) and a film programmer for the ITAE filmclub. Castillo's work focuses on the use of different media such as video, sculpture, and drawing. He is motivated by the potential for a practice located in the error phenomena, despised by certain filmmakers for being considered mere mistakes; he explores a "low quality aesthetic" and the pursuit and enhancement of certain effects that result from the inaccurate implementation of technical equipment.
