born : 25/6/1949 in Mortsel (Antwerp). His maternal uncle, Louis Vermeiren, was a professional artist painter in the region of Hamme, Oost-Vlaanderen(Blgium, Europe). It took myself a number of years to finally settle on my own and unique style 'magical abstract realism'.My current works (acrylic resin on linnen) are a reflection of my search for a combination of realism and mysticism interwoven through the abstract of my colour play.An enourmus sense for detail is shown in the use of brushes for the further development of colours and broad palette strokes. In 2008, Prins Laurent, youngest son of the Belgian King, was one of the visitors of the exhibition in Theo Gallery in Antwerp. My paintings represent a realistic entity within an abstract universe where the fantasy of the art lover is stimulated by the design and the diversity of the chosen colours.By an abstract play of different colourpalettes through which realistic characters find their way, the spectator is taken along into a magical search full of sparkling and powerful emotions.I want to guide the spectator to the start of this voyage of discovery, where the painting will reveal itself more and ever more through a cascade of personal discoveries, a result of the enormous cre...
After secondary school, I studied decorating arts and illustrations at the institute of higher education St.Lucas in Brussels (Belgium, Europe).I combined this studies with training in graphics/publicity at the academy of Kontich in antwerp (Belgium, Europe). At the same academy I studied painting. Among my teachers were Staf Van Elzen (artist painter from Antwerp, Belgium) and Alex De Mulder.I was a member of several artistic societies and got a mention in the book of young Flemisch artists (1969).In 1970 I was awarded the price of the young Antwerp artists. For several years I exposed in numerous galleries in Antwerp and Mechelen(Belgium, Europe). In the youth work shop in Mortsel(Belgium,Europe) I taught young artists the art of painting. My job as a gaphical designer and scanner operator has always kept myself happily occupied in an environment filled with colours and where drawning and sketching were part of the daily routine. The municipality of Zandhoven(Belgium,Europe), where I reside at the moment, have decided to acquire 2 of my works towards the improvement of the new Town Hall.Leo won the public award from the palm art award 2009 in Leipzig, Germany.,
