Maria Candida Flores

Born in 1963, is one of the most innovative and controversial Filipino artist. Her talent as an artist showed at an early age.
Her paintings employed a meticulous academic technique that was contradicted by the unreal "˜dream' space she depicted and by the strangely hallucinatory characters of her imagery. She described her work as "˜hand painted dream portraits' and had certain favorite and reoccurring images, such as human figure, bent and flowing as if image is melting.
Candida's style grew increasingly experimental. However, her art works were roundly attacked by critics for their fantastical imagery and their bold decorative style.
In the late months of 2010, Candida continued her series of portraits. She viewed these as "studies" works which would continue to refine her craft in preparation for her most ambitious work to date.
Her mature style combined richly decorative surface patterning with complex symbolism and allegory, often with overtly erotic content.
