Born 1956 near Portsmouth, England.Worked as a gardener for Portsmouth Parks Dept for 11 years prior to attending college full time. Between receiving my BA and starting my MFA I was a resident artist at The Clay Studio, Philadelphia. I now live in the Philadelphia area.I have worked almost exclusively with brick since 1986. While studying for my BA in ceramics, I knew I wanted to make sculpture, brick solved some problems I had with scale and site normally associated with the medium.Influences vary, Gaudi, an obvious one, but mainly its the medium itself. I see it as an architypal symbol, the unequivical rigid form we can all identify with, yet it is formed from the earth's most amorphous substance. This core idea provides me with a wealth of inspiration.Although I have been in a good many exhibitions, I consider my permanent sculptural commissions to be the more important work.
