About Ricardo Praga
Ricardo Praga´s artwork presents a clear evidence of a Culture Clash after moving to the Czech Republic. As a Portuguese contemporary artist, when confronted with a Slavic culture on a daily basis, he struggled to understand and assimilate the reality around him while at the same time being curious, intrigued and fascinated by what he was seeing. This exposure has influenced the way he looks at things and consequently affected the art he is creating. His work is characterized by a strong visual composition created by an interesting cocktail of circus elements, theater performances in “noir” environments and recently a contemporary “still life” type of work using newspaper as the stage for the action to take place. During the creative process, he has the particularity of using a sense of “naivete” similar to a child when looking at the world in the first years of their life when everything seem so new and fresh, trying constantly to make sense from several codes that are around such as language. However since he has a background as a visual artist he can bring and portrait the importance of such cultural exposure when developing his art concepts. For Praga´s art concept, one important concern is to never unveil the idea behind each project. His work only well succeeds once he creates a reaction in the audience side making them think. For the artist, it should create discussion or take the audience into an inner journey.
