Robert Beard

Mr. Beard grew up in homes filled with art and artists in Atlanta Georgia.
Bobby would return from school in the afternoon and would go directly to his mom’s, Selma’s upstairs studio. Other times would walk to his grandmother, Rebecca’s house and find her in her oversized studio. It was inevitable that art would be the center of his life’s work.

Mr. Beard studied fine art at The University of Georgia, in the Lamar Dodd school of fine arts, and in Italy, in Cortona. Mr Beard was fortunate to attend the University of Georgia when Elaine Dekooning had the visiting artist’s chair. Mrs. Dekooning became a life long supporter and champion of Bobby and his art career.

Bobby moved to New York upon graduation in 1982 and hit the ground running.

He had his first New York exhibition with Michelle Rosenfeld in 1983.
Mrs. Dekooning also found Bobby his first job in New York at her art dealer’s The Grunenbaum Gallery in New York.
