In my artwork I explore the notion of our world as an illusion, made up of mainly space. This awareness that links us to all things comes in the space between our breath in and out. In the blurred moments of consciousness in the beauty of the nature I wish to express a feeling of timelessness: time, objects and space becoming one. The notion of our world as an illusion, made up of mainly space.
My work both in photography and painting explores the idea of presence, it is an investigation in time and its relation to a deeper truth of life. I am inspired by photographers Henri Cartier- Bresson, Minor White, Alfred Steiglitz and writers Proust and Herman Hesse who wrote on the importance of the present moment. Along with painters Mark Rothko and Gerhard Richter who saw that art could express a moment of truth, a connection to all humanity other than physical.
The growth of Sandra McArthur’s art expression began in 1984 when she majored in art education for Primary School teaching. She has studied art at Kuring Gai College, ANU School of Art, Gosford Regional Gallery and completed a Diploma in Fine Art at Hornsby Tafe in 2011.
