Painting for me is an exploration of self; there is a place I go when fully absorbed in the painting process. This place is never clearly defined; it is the space between being awake and asleep. Drifting thoughts are intermixed with vague concepts whilst experimentation, exploration and an intuitive response to the working process are three key points of connection which are relevant in my own studio work. Combining both surface and paint is an opportunity to play, to destroy and can be both exciting and irresistible. The possibilities of a chance encounter with the intersection of colour can tie the work together, bringing out the ultimate aesthetics.
Art can tell us about the world we live in. It can make us feel more profoundly, think more intelligently and stimulate the senses. Abstract for me is seductive and irresistible, a place where colours merge, patterns develop, and forms appear. It is more an exploration into the discovery of images rather than a deliberate making of a drawing
