Roman Guruli was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. In 1967 Roman entered Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts on the faculty of Sculpture. After graduating from Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, he started participating in international stone sculpture symposiums and different Art exhibitions.
His first symposium abroad was in France, Biarritz, on the golden shore of Bay of Biscay where the idea of creating a huge ocean wave came to Roman’s mind. And the 4-meter-high white marble monumental wave was born.
He primarily works on stone, but the art he creates is versatile. His sculptures are made in wood, metal, plaster and stone. Also, copper carving is one of Roman’s favorite courses. Abstract works in copper is Roman’s special and unique handwriting. Combining different materials and synthesizing them till perfection is also Roman’s strong side; Throughout his career he never stopped experimenting. Roman’s art embodies the inherent abstract characteristics in which an interplay of shapes, sizes, colors and rhythms express his ideas and feelings.
