Olga Melehina

Riga-based potter and sculptor. As an artist, I am interested in the meeting point of the philosophical and the aesthetic: the beauty and the horror of the modern age, the frailty of human existence, the curse and the blessing of time, and the imprints we leave on this ever-changing world. The basis of my creative practice is spatial relations, rather – the relationship between space and everything else — time, volume, light, shadows, human bodies, and objects.


During the last seven years that I have been doing ceramics and sculpting, I have experimented with various methods and techniques – from traditional wheel pottery to hand-built abstract structures and from electric kilns to Japanese wood-firing. Currently, my artistic pursuits include the use of raw clay in sculptures, large-scale terracotta installations and mixed media art objects.
