I was born in Ann Arbor Michigan and grew up in Chicago. I was eleven when I won a Golden Key Award for Art through a Chicago Public School competition. At about that time I also won a scholarship to a series of lectures at The Art Institute of Chicago. After being discharged from the Army, I attended The Maryland College of Art and Design in 1971, where I became excited about impressionism and abstract art and studied the works of Monet, Van Gogh, Rothko, Rauschenberg, Johns, Indiana, and others. To help finance my schooling, I sketched portraits in the summer on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD. and continued to do so for ten years. I also perfected my skill as a portrait painter and received numerous commissions.
Above all else in art, I have always been interested in color. I’m intrigued with how color works. I also experiment with outlines in my work.
