Every Person is a Sacred Place. Much of my work is concerned with miracles-something you might see out of the corner of your eye. You don't believe it but it bothers you. The ordinary becomes the extraordinary.
I use symbols, environment, shadow, space, and gesture to create portraits that work on multiple levels. The paintings are like modern icons; but unlike ancient icons, these people are specific, not abstract.
I began to draw and make art in elementary school. My mother was not pleased that no paper was left for homework.
I began formal training in my early 20's. Divorced mother of two, I intended to merely audit a painting class at the local college. The Dean noticed my work and persuaded me to apply and gain credits toward a degree. My passion for art made this the most enjoyable time of my academic career.
Studied Fine Art for four years at Augusta College and the University of South Carolina.
Instructors included Phil Mullen, Marge Andruk, and Clay Hagewood.
