EDUCATION

Victoria Hall was born in 1972 in East Yorkshire, she now lives and works in London. Since graduating from her MA in Fine Art in 1995 from Chelsea School of Art & Design, she has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally.

Victoria Hall's humorous and sophisticated restagings of famous British and European paintings pay careful attention to lavish costumes and grand surroundings, in which Hall is always the leading lady. She has created a body of work which is often stunning in scale and ambition, and yet has a very English sensibility about it. They are a thought-provoking reflection of the artist's interest in the role of the female figure in western portraiture and our love affair with history as costume drama.
These works, in which the specific language, texture and accessibility of photographic reality is exploited, make reference to the modern creation and consumption of history through period drama and the heritage industrys exploitation of this genre
