Giò Stefan

I'm an Italian painter, I live and work in Treviso, not far from Venice, where I graduated in Architecture in the 1980s.
I've worked for years in interior design, then I dedicated myself to painting.

Initially, I made many portraits, designed to be harmoniously placed in the client's living environment and to personalize their home. My artistic reference was the painter Tamara De Lempicka, who gave me inspiration for my oil representation technique, using a small number of colors, with bright tones and decisive chromatic contrasts.
Despite my propensity for this genre, portrait has always been the most difficult theme: as Henri Cartier Bresson said, it's a question mark placed on someone whose secret you intend to reveal. And the final result is always a surprise, an unexpected response that comes from the deep.

With my daughter Sabina I share a passion for auteur cinema. Together we watch films of all ages, from Hitchcock to Billy Wilder, from Tim Burton to Wes Anderson. This is where my interest in the pictorial genre of cinema was born: I create many works, with the technique of acrylic on canvas, inspired by scenes from famous films, like "North by Northwest", "La dolce vita", "Out of Africa"...
