Teresa Smith

Born and raised in Austin, Texas until the age of 21 years of age when I married and started moving from state to state following my husbands' career path. I've lived in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas and then finally landed in Florida in 1995.
After 25 years of raising a fantastic son and daughter, going back to school and earning my Masters of Social Work degree and then working in the mental health field for 15 years I finally decided to do what I love most...creating art!
I am a self-taught mixed media collage artist. Each work of art that I create is started from a palette of different mediums such as acrylic paint, handmade papers, maps, fabrics, hardware, beads and any other found objects that can be incorporated into the final collage. With each piece the theme may vary, but my overall goal is to create a harmonious assemblage of colors, textures and patterns that will provoke interest to the viewer. As an artist I like to think my work expresses many facets of myself...those of which are somewhat unconventional, a little unusual, but always authentic and unique. Living in Florida on the west coast has inspired my most recent works of depicting mermaids in varying surroundings and situation...
