Jack Ying Tan

Jying Tan is a young Singapore art-practitioner. Although trained in painting, she has a strong sensitivity to material. Material such as fabric and paper are often seen in her work. Her experience of shifting from an environment to the other had result in her interests to explore the notion of change which resulted in her investigations on temporality, construction and displacement.Apart from participating in the Curating Lab: 100 Remix workshop organised by the National University of Singapore museum partnership with the National Art Council of Singapore in 2009 , she also participate in other aspect of art such as volunteering work for Fetter Field performance art event organised by The Artist Village, Singapore in 2007, and written for the Praxis Press published by the LaSalle College of Art in 2008 and 2009. Jying Tan had participate in numerous exhibitions and received awards such as the UOB painting of the year (highly commended) and Georgette Chen art scholarship in 2008, the Winston Oh Travel Award ( Travelogue practice), NAC Art bursary (Local) and the winner of France+Singapore new generation artist in 2009.
