Miriam Quiering

For me, painting means to speak the unspeakable. Where I find no words, I find colour, shape and texture to express myself.
I like to think of my paintings as storytelling. They are like fragments of my life story, exposing little pieces of my soul.
Every painting bears it’s own very personal story- of love, pain, joy and misery. But the magic really happens when a viewer can find their own story within my paintings, created by strange hands, suddenly seeming so close.
Thats where I find the deeper sense of my art.
As a master student at the University of Bonn, my academic studies about gender and Islamic cultures have a big influence on my art. At the moment, I am fascinated by strong women with their power and ability to change world for the better.
I mainly use acrylic and oils, but I like to experiment and try different things- you may find dry flowers, shards of glass and even threads in some of my works. My style covers everything from realistic portraits to abstract colours over to surrealistic compositions. It’s as diverse as life and as I am changing, so are my paintings.
