Joe Hodway

Joe Hodway completed his Masters in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2025. He was born in Dubai, the son of a British mercenary and a refugee of Iraqi origin, He has lived as a migrant in the Middle-East and South-East Asia, where he absorbed many of the stylistic and spiritual elements seen in his work. Hodway now lives and works in London, U.K.

His work addresses the transience of form and identity, and how the interplay of time, energy, matter, and location disrupts the way we perceive boundaries between ourselves, each other, and our environments. Drawing upon cosmological science, he seeks to remind us of our shared origins at the dawn of the universe, and common properties and trajectories that continue unite us.

Sustainability is fundamental to Hodway’s practice. He combines salvaged post-consumer, and post-industrial paints with PEFC and FSC certified materials that sequester carbon dioxide.

The recycling of materials is conceptually significant, echoing the eternal recycling of matter and energy into new configurations in cosmological systems.
