I was born in France in the mid-1960s. Growing up in the 1970s, I felt the frustration of the limitations society imposed on me as a young girl. That grumbling voice has been growing since, and it took me a while to understand that it wasn't words that would help voice that frustration, but photography. My photography focuses mainly on giving women a voice and celebrating their resilience. I have two main series that emphasise this thought. My art series, Women in Quiet Rebellion, gives voice to women who were supposed to be seen but not heard, using Renaissance painting techniques to infuse the portraits I create with drama and a sense of quiet rebellion. The second series, called a Joyful Journey, moves from the confines of a posed portrait to celebrate resilience and freedom. Here, I move away from the rules and techniques of photography, using grain and blur to imply movement. Engaging in feminist themes. My aim with these art series is to invite women to see themselves, reflect on what it means to be a woman, and be grateful for the generations of women who have paved the way for us.
