German-Korean artist In-Ah Mellor blends her background in classical art with years of experience as a feature film animator. She is drawn to botanical abstracts because they offer a unique tension: the organic, unpredictable chaos of nature versus the intentional precision of symmetry. This balance is a reflection of her own hybrid identity, blending a European education in art and animation with an intuitive, personal connection to pattern and form.
Technically, she focuses on the tactile, building rich textures that invite the eye to linger, creating patterns that feel both structured and alive. By isolating botanical elements and reimagining them through an abstract lens, she hopes to capture the quiet, rhythmic heartbeat of the Pacific Northwest. For In-Ah, painting is not just about what the eye sees; it is about finding the underlying order and beauty in a complex world.
