Valérie Mantha is a contemporary abstract painter based in Sainte-Flore, Quebec, Canada. Her visual language is recognizable at first glance: on a rich painted surface built through layering, pencil lines trace, delineate, and reveal. This dialogue between painting and line — between the free gesture and precision — has become the signature of her entire body of work, both expressive and structured.
The pencil line was born from the constraints of daily life — it was accessible, silent, immediate. It stayed because it carries everything paint alone does not say: structure, rhythm, and the tension between what is shown and what is held back.
Her paintings develop through successive layers of acrylic, ink, and pencil on gallery-wrapped canvas. Opaque passages meet transparent veils, creating depth through both addition and removal. This language unfolds across series. Each series carries its own identity — palette, density, light — and ranges from small to large format. From one series to the next, the line remains. It is the thread that connects everything.
